Why should you visit Zadar?
Zadar is a city of invaluable cultural heritage and its continuity lasts from the time of ancient and puzzling Liburnian culture. Across the centuries Zadar has been one of the administrative and cultural centres of all Adriatic Croatia. It is the place where the first Croatian prayer-book had been written, the first music notes had been recorded, and here Petar Zoranić had written the first Croatian novelPlanine. Already in 1396 a Dominican university existed in Zadar and at the very beginning of the 19th century the first bilingual newspapers Kraljski Dalmatin were printed in Croatian-Italian edition. Permanent exhibition of ecclesiastic art Gold and silver of Zadar is one of the three most interesting sacral exhibitions in Europe. Zadar is also unique in its pre-Romanesque and Romanesque architecture.
In the vicinity of Zadar there is also the royal Croatian town of Nin where the smallest cathedral in the world can be seen. Zadar is situated in the idyllic surrounding or natural beauty and overwhelming sand beaches, and in its proximity there are three national parks (NP Paklenica, NP Krka, and NP Kornati).
